Water Supply and Sanitation in Ajitgarh
Water in Ajitgarh City is supplied by the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation, Government of Punjab in tandem of the Municipal Corporation of Ajitgarh.
Since there is no major river located in the vicinity, the water supply to this ever expanding town has to depend mainly on underground water. Unfortunately, increasing demand on water has resulted in the depletion in the level of underground water. While in 1992, water was available only at 100 feet level, now in some areas the water table stands at 1400 feet. At present, 29 pumps lift 3 million gallons of water on daily basis. Additionally, the Bhakra Canal also provides 10 million gallons of water to the city. Although lifting water from Bhakra Canal is rather expensive, the government undertakes this service as welfare measure.
